The most valuable UX skill in 2026 might not be prototyping.

It’s asking better questions.

AI can generate screens.
Design tools can generate prototypes.
Design systems can speed up UI.

But speed doesn’t guarantee good UX.

The designer’s job is shifting from:

“What should I design?”
to
“What should I understand first?”

Instead of asking:

“What feature should we build?”
“What problem are we actually trying to solve?”

“Users want this feature.”
“What evidence tells us they want it?”

“We need a redesign.”
“Why? Who is experiencing the problem? How do we know?”

The best designers aren’t just bringing answers to the table.

They’re bringing better questions.

That’s strategic UX.
