Getting a UX job offer is exciting, but accepting it deserves careful thought.
Before saying yes, take time to understand the role, the team, the design process, and the opportunities available to you.
1. Understand the role
Ask what you’ll own, which problems you’ll solve, and what success looks like in your first six months. Clear expectations help you understand whether the position matches your goals.
2. Understand the team
Find out who makes design decisions, how designers collaborate with product and engineering, and how the team handles disagreements.
3. Understand the design process
Ask how research is conducted, how designs are tested, and how user insights influence decisions. These answers reveal how design works in practice.
4. Understand your growth opportunities
Explore how feedback works, whether design critiques are encouraged, and what progression to the next level requires.
5. Evaluate the complete offer
Consider compensation, benefits, working arrangements, responsibilities, team culture, and learning opportunities—not just the salary.
One question to ask before accepting
“What would make you say, six months from now, that hiring me was the right decision?”
This question can reveal the company’s expectations, priorities, and definition of success.
Remember
An interview works both ways. The company is evaluating you, but you are also evaluating the company.
Don’t just ask, “Will they hire me?”
Ask, “Would I want to work here?”
