“I don’t know yet.”

Sounds risky in a UX interview?
Not necessarily.

When asked, “Why are users abandoning this flow?”, you could immediately blame the CTA, the number of steps, or the UI.
But how do you know?

A stronger answer might be:
“I don’t know yet. I’d first look at where users are dropping off, speak with users, test a few hypotheses, and then make a decision based on the evidence.”

That shows something more valuable than having a quick answer:
→ Critical thinking
→ Curiosity
→ Research mindset
→ Structured problem-solving
→ Humility
→ Decision-making

Great UX designers aren’t walking encyclopedias.
They know what they know, what they don’t know, and how to find out.

“I don’t know yet” isn’t the end of an answer.
It can be the beginning of great UX thinking.
