Feeling like an imposter doesn’t mean you don’t belong.
Every junior designer has probably thought:
“Everyone here is better than me.”
“I don’t know enough.”
“What if they realise I’m not actually good?”
“Maybe I’m not ready.”
But here’s the trap:
You compare someone else’s 5 years of experience with your 5 months.
You see their polished portfolio, confident presentation, vocabulary, case studies and shipped work.
But you’re looking at their Chapter 20 from your Chapter 2.
Being junior isn’t a design failure.
You’re supposed to:
→ Ask questions
→ Make mistakes
→ Need feedback
→ Not know everything
That’s what being junior means.
So don’t wait until you feel confident.
Build evidence.
Track:
→ Something you learned
→ A problem you solved
→ Feedback you acted on
→ A mistake you won’t repeat
→ Something you designed
→ A decision you can now explain
Confidence becomes easier when you can look back and say:
“I’ve done hard things before.”
You don’t need to prove you’re an expert.
You need to keep becoming better.
