The instinct is usually:

“I need to apply to more jobs.”

But what if the problem isn’t application volume?

What if your job-search funnel is broken?

Think about your job search like a UX funnel:

Targeting → Positioning → Resume → Portfolio → Application → Tracking

If candidates aren’t reaching the interview stage, don’t just increase the number of applications.

Diagnose the drop-off first.

Ask yourself:

→ Am I targeting roles that genuinely fit?

→ Does my resume communicate relevant experience?

→ Do my bullets show contribution and outcomes?

→ Does my portfolio show how I think?

→ Is my individual contribution obvious?

→ Does my positioning match the role?

→ Am I tracking outcomes and learning from them?

And remember:

More applications ≠ better targeting.

A UX designer should be able to debug their job search too.

Before application #51:

STOP. DIAGNOSE. IMPROVE.

Save this funnel for your next job search. 🔖
